Clinical Hypnotherapy (Ericksonian Hypnosis)

Thinking and behaving differently to increase success

Focusing on what's important, using all the power of your mind

I offer one to one hypnotherapy sessions over video call or in person in Banstead, Surrey. I also have a range of recorded guided self-hypnosis experiences that you can access from this website. Some of the specialist areas I cover include anxiety relief, building confidence, tools for moving forwards from past traumas or depression.

Hypnotherapy (or hypnosis) is just a guided facilitation of what happens naturally in your life everyday. Another word for hypnosis is trance... and all that means is focusing on something - important - and at the same time allowing other things to move out of your conscious awareness. However, when facilitated with skill it can be a highly effective means of making effective personal change, capturing insights and regaining better balance across your whole self - at the physical, mental, and emotional levels....

Everyday trance - what's your experience?

Have you found yourself in a deep conversation with a friend and then suddenly realised you had lost all awareness of what's been going on around you?

Or maybe you've got so engrossed in watching a film that you've become mesmerised by what's happening - not hearing your partner talk to you, or perhaps feeling your own muscles jerk and react as you watch an exciting, nail-biting, scene (as if you were there in the movie!) ?

Or even that everyday example of watching your mobile device - entranced by that little screen!

These are all examples of types of trance. We are paying attention to something with a deeper focus and at the same time allowing other things to slip from our awareness.

How can I use trance for my benefit?

In hypnosis we use the same principles that sit behind what we do naturally (see the column to the left) - but amplify and direct them for a specific purpose.

Part of the trance experience is distracting that small part of the mind which can tend to dominate (we might refer to this as the 'conscious mind', or the 'analytical mind') and allow greater access to your wider mind (sometimes referred to as your 'unconscious mind').

In essence we are inviting ourselves to bypass some of the 'clutter' (our critical self-talk, disempowering beliefs about ourselves, concerns to 'get it right' / 'be perfect' etc and all the other 'stuff' that are conscious minds can get trapped in doing) and get better access to the complete power of our minds; tap into our inner wisdom; connect with things which we thought we had forgotten how to do; inner resources and positive experiences; listening to our mind, body and soul; tapping into and regaining our energy, motivation and passion for the things we want to achieve or do.

What kind of hypnosis do I use?

The style of hypnosis I use is based on the work of Milton Erickson and is a very open, more conversational approach.

And if you have any concerns about 'being manipulated' - there is no need to worry. All hypnosis is really self-hypnosis. I'm just a facilitator to guide you. Your mind won't permit you to do anything it doesn't want to.

In fact, hypnosis actually gives you back even more control of your mind and body - as you learn to connect more with what is right for you, your inner wisdom and your values.

(Hypnotherapy has nothing to do with the kind of 'stage hypnosis' that you see on TV, where people 'cluck like chickens' etc. That's just a performance! The truth is that those people would probably make fools of themselves anyway, just to be on TV!)

What kinds of things can hypnotherapy support with?

The following are just a few examples of where hypnotherapy can support your well-being, either by itself or in combination with the other services I offer:
  • Overcome limiting beliefs or past negative emotional experiences and events.
  • Tap into your energy to achieve a goal.
  • Work on something that has been holding you back or disabling you in some way.
  • Re-connect with inner resources to increase confidence, emotional well-being, clarity and focus.
  • Reduce stress, anxiety and worries that drain your energy or reduce the quality of your life.

Hypnotherapy connects really well with NLP, so a lot of the skills, techniques and outcomes overlap; the choice of approach is more a matter of what works best for you (rather than one is 'better than the other').

To find out more about hypnotherapy drop me an email or call and I'll gladly answer your questions, without any obligation from yourself.
